SEATING CHART FOR SHOWS & SPECIAL EVENTS

Just as you do for a hockey game, a baseball game and similar ticketed events with numbered seating, your Home is implementing a seating arrangement for ticketed events. This is nothing new and it’s fair. When a group of people want to sit together at an event, they plan accordingly. Someone from the group purchases a block of tickets and when that group enters, their table and seats are waiting. They’re not looking at all the tables taken up with one or two people sitting at them.

When the Home hosts a ticketed event, like shows or the New Year’s party, a seating chart will be used. When you buy your ticket, you’ll select what table you’ll be sitting at.

Plan ahead and purchase your tickets early. You’ll get better seats and be able to sit together.

BRANCH PRESIDENT’S CORNER

BRAVO-ZULU to all of our Branch and Unit members, who came out and participated in our Memorial Day activities. We had the largest turn-out for flag placement and retrieval in my memory. Shipmate Larry Cox and his helpers did an excellent job on the Memorial Day Ceremony. And, Master Chief Bob Shannon provided an insightful and moving speech, as our keynote speaker. Well Done!

BRAVO-ZULU to all of our Branch and Unit members, who attended our Installation of Officers. Shipmate Darlene Hines and her helpers did an excellent job. Thank you to Shipmate Jim Robbins, President of Branch 91 in Jacksonville, for installing this year’s officers and directors.

Shipmate Pete Pearson is returning as our Membership and Retention Chairman. He needs our help! Our membership numbers have been in the high 900’s for the last two months. It sure would be nice to eclipse 1000…sooner rather than later! Ask that friend of yours to join the FRA, the best Sea Services veteran organization on the planet!

VISITS TO THE VA HOSPITAL

The Branch Board of Directors held a lengthy discussion about instituting a monthly or quarterly visit to the VA Hospital in Charleston. All members agreed that it’s a noble gesture, but we first need to identify our members that are interested in participating. Consequently, ALL HANDS that are interested and willing to participate in visits to the VA Hospital are asked to contact Shipmate Doug Cattell at 797-0248. Doug is our VAVS representative and regularly visits the VA Hospital, usually accompanied only by his wife, Lady Sue Cattell.

If you’re willing to participate in regular visits to the VA Hospital, call Doug and get on the list. If we have enough participants, we’ll schedule regular monthly or quarterly visits.

MADAM PREZ’s CORNER

Unit Members:

I want to start this off by sending a special thank you to Kathy Bourgeois and Barbara Addington for standing in for me at the installation of officers evening. To our NP Sandra Robbins, a very special thank you.

I am very happy to say that filling my positions of appointees and committee chairwomen has been completed.

The last meeting, was a very productive evening. Many questions were asked and one of the main questions was “Who is the Unit, What is the Unit, What do we stand for, good question and as your President I would be pleased to give you the answer:

Who We Are

Organized in 1930, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association (LA FRA) is chartered to aid, assist and promote all matters pertaining to welfare, social, and patriotic works of the Fleet Reserve Association , its members and their families. There is also a Membership-at-Large (MAL) roll administered by the LA FRA National Offices, for those who do not have access to, or do not desire to join a Unit. The LA FRA is proud of the heritage and traditions of this great nation and we recognize the sacrifices, past and present, needed to keep us strong and free.

What Do We Do?

LA FRA plays an active role in the local community by promoting youth activities, Americanism, and charitable causes. At the national level, LA FRA funds four annual scholarships and was a major contributor to the building of our nation's Navy Memorial, located in Washington, D.C.

LA FRA Units sponsor and assist local communities with their memorial ceremonies and patriotic events. They also participate in social events such as dances, luncheons, picnics and fund-raising activities. Annual regional and national conventions, caucuses, workshops, convention tours, shows and dinner/dances round out many exciting activities available to LA FRA members.

Who Can Join? All applicants must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
Membership in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association is limited to spouses, parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, children, stepchildren and grandchildren not less than 16 years of age of members of the Fleet Reserve Association and widows, widowers, parents, grandparents, sisters
, brothers, children, stepchildren and grandchildren not less than 16 years of age of persons who were members at the time of death or eligible to be members of the Fleet Reserve Association at the time of death. For more information, here is the web site for further information: http://www.la-fra.org

I hope this is of some help to all, but remember I would also like the members to show suppose by attending the monthly meeting.

My heartfelt sympathies goes out too those who have recently lost a loved one. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. A speedy recovery is wished for those of us who are sick or recovering from an illness. Happy Birthday/Happy Anniversary to those celebrating in the month of July.

I remain yours in L/P/S,   Pat  Suckow

NATIONAL VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION

NOVEMBER 8th-11th

Let’s help make it happen!!!! What???? Let’s help make Charleston be the city known for hosting the National Veterans Day Celebration. Dinners, shows, golf tournament, picnics, and a parade are in the works.

The Branch and Unit will have a float in the parade. Watch for additional details as for when and where to meet. Start planning to be part of it.
