BRANCH PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Wow! May is here, already! Our Branch, Unit and Home elections are this month. All Hands are encouraged to attend this month’s meeting and vote for the candidate(s) of your choice. If you want to serve as an officer or director for the coming year, you can still be nominated for the position. The second round of nominations precede the elections. Simply ask another Shipmate to nominate you! Remember, involvement equates to influence. If you want to wield more influence within the Branch or Home, get involved!

Memorial Day services will be observed on Monday, May 28th at Plantation Memorial Gardens. We’ll place flags at 0800, followed by our Memorial Day Services at 1000. We’ll retrieve the flags at dusk. All Hands are encouraged to attend. Memorial Day is not just a day for cook-outs and get-togethers. It’s our opportunity to remember those Shipmates and Veterans, who are now serving on the Staff of the Supreme Commander, having given their all for our rights and freedoms! The 1000 hours service is followed by an indoor picnic at The Home at 1300 hours.

NOMINATIONS & ELECTIONS

Nominations will continue at our May meeting. Voting will take place after the second round of nominations.

Keep in mind, these positions must be filled for us to be a chartered Branch and Unit. The Home Committee is in place to oversee the operation of the club. All of our Branch, Unit, and Home officers are not merely figurehead positions. Duties and responsibilities are associated with these positions. Thank you for volunteering! Do so with an intention to work. Branch and Home Bylaws describe the duties of each of our elected positions.

Our national by-laws, in the Installation of Officers ceremony states :”I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office to which I have been elected”. These positions are working positions! Vote for who you know will do the job and will get the job done!

MEMORIAL DAY FLAG PLACEMENT & SERVICES

As Memorial Day approaches, it is time to pause and consider the true meaning of this holiday.  Memorial Day represents the day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and it’s values.

Merry Widows Support Group

The Merry Widows Support Group plans to visit the Abbey in Moncks Corner on Tuesday May 8th.  Everyone will meet at the Abbey at 11:30 A.M.  Everyone is asked to bring their own "Bag Lunch".  If you would like to share a ride with someone, just call and make your plans to get together.

We discussed about doing different things.  This time of year, the weather is perfect for enjoying the outdoors.  Hope to see a big crowd for this event.  Call and offer someone a ride.

A LITTLE BRANCH HISTORY AND WE’RE MAKING IT STILL

The institution of Low Country Branch 269 took place on March 28, 1998 with seventy-two members on the roster. Over the years we’ve lost a number of members. Way too many have transferred to the Staff of the Supreme Commander.

Here it is, just nine years later and we’ve grown to nine hundred ninety-two members in good standing. We are now a Group One Branch in the FRA. Congratulations and Bravo Zulu, Shipmates!!!!!!!!!!!
